Delicious Prisms!

4th Nov 2020

P4/5 have been doing lots of learning about 3D shapes and were learning about Prisms.  The boys and girls were learning that a prism is a type of three-dimensional (3D) shape with flat sides. It has two ends that are the same shape and size (and look like a 2D shape). It has the same cross-section all along the shape from end to end; that means if you cut through it you would see the same 2D shape as on either end.

They were also learning that because a cylinder has curved sides it is not a prism.

To help them remember their learning about prisms and cylinders Mrs Hay used a tasty treat to demonstrate!  She showed them how if you cut a swiss roll, you get the same design the whole way through like a prism but that as it has a curved surface it is not a prism.

After Halloween they were able to remember this learning too!  Well done P4/5 and it was a delicious maths lesson :-)
