STEM fun in P1/2
Our P1 and P2 children were really using their thinking skills and creative abilities today during a STEM activity. The challenge asked them to design and make a boat that would float and an extra challenge encouraged them to make a mast with a sail for their boat too. The children were allowed to work alone, in a pair or as part of a group and as you can see from our photos they really got involved in the challenge and designed some super boats! Lots of learning took place as during the trial and error of building the children realised that neither paper or cardboard make the most waterproof building material! After a final test to see which boats floated we sorted the designs into 'float' and 'doesn't float' sections. A great time was had and it was lovely to hear children discussing their ideas using language such as plastic, waterproof, float and sink.
