Primary 5 and 6 kicked off their ICT journey this year by focusing on ‘Coding’.
The class used an online package which encouraged lots of independent learning as well the opportunity to enhance ’trial and improvement’ skills.
Each level of the website scored children in two ways, a ‘route’ score and an ‘algorithm’ score. The route score focused on reaching the destination and the algorithm score focused on the blocks of code used.
As the levels progressed the children were introduced to new blocks of code and began to realise that instead of repeating information, they could use specific blocks of code to ‘repeat’ a sequence.
Our topic also tied in nicely with National Coding Week which occurred during September.
The class enjoyed the ICT sessions and it gave them a taster of the ‘Coding’ World.
