One Kind Word

23rd Nov 2021
One Kind Word

This year, the theme of Anti-Bullying Week 2021 was ‘One Kind Word.’

P5/6 had a very busy week participating in lots of lessons, had lots of discussions, created some lovely pieces of work and finished the week by celebrating Odd Socks Day.

They created two very important pieces of hand art this week. One hand signified their Five Person Support Network, people who they can turn to if they need to talk e.g. Mum, Dad, teacher, friend etc.

The other piece of hand art was used to show the things that they enjoy and what makes them happy.

A lesson taken from the NI Anti-Bullying forum taught the children the impact that our words can have on others and how to use our words positively to impact others.

When talking about the power of words the class used toothpaste and tomato puree. They wrote their names with the puree/toothpaste and were then asked to put the puree/toothpaste back in the bottle. Obviously an extremely difficult thing to do thus showing the children, that like our words, once they are out they cannot be taken back or put back in.

We discussed how our tone of voice impacts on what we are saying and the importance of remembering words behind a person’s back are still hurtful, even if not said to their face.

In another lesson we looked at the importance of kindness, how it is a way of life, how it can influence our day and what random acts of kindness we could do at home and in school.

On Friday we celebrated Anti-Bullying Week by wearing odd socks. Wearing odd socks was an opportunity to encourage pupils to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique!

Well done P5/6, you worked brilliantly this week.
