Nature Fractions

P4/5 are working on FRACTIONS this week.  We decided to use the outdoor classroom to collect some natural materials and used these to consolidate our understanding of FRACTIONS.  There was a lot of problem solving involved.

1st the children had to collect sticks of the correct thickness to break, we had a lot of logs at first - not easy to break!

2nd they had to find 4 or more sticks of the same length. 

3rd they had to break some of the sticks into equal parts to create fractions of the whole.  More complicated that it looks perhaps. 

We still had lot of fun in the sun while we were doing it! WE LOVE FOREST SCHOOL!!!!!
