Experiment Time
As part of our 'Brr It's Freezing' topic, P1/2 have been taking part in some experiments. First they were introduced to temperature and took a survey of differing temperatures throughout the school, even the freezer!! The boys and girls recorded their findings on a data collection sheet.
Our next experiment involved ice cubes which were placed in different places in the classroom. The children predicted what they thought would happen then looked again 15 minutes later. Sure enough the ice cube by the radiator melted the fastest. We had great fun with the 'Melt the Ice' game where Harry Robinson and Yazmin Doughtery discovered the best way to melt an ice cube was to breathe hot air on it and hold it tightly in their warm hands - a GREAT discovery!
Our latest experiment involved finding the best material to make an umbrella for Pooh Bear. The children tested, cardboard, tissue paper, kitchen roll, plastic bag and fabric. Everyone got a chance to test one of the materials out and in the end we discovered that the plastic was the best choice for Pooh's umbrella! The children all worked very well together remembering to take turns and wait for equipment. Our little scientists had a great time discovering the answers through practical learning.
