Celebrating 60 years of DPS with Rachel

28th Feb 2025

To celebrate our 60th Birthday we are sharing photos and stories from past pupils to share in their successes and celebrate as a community.  Our third story is from our past pupil Rachel making this a bit of a family affair as her brother Robert was the focus of our story last week :-)

I absolutely loved my time at DPS and cannot believe they are 60 years old! My Dad even attended here.  Every Teacher and Classroom Assistant were incredible throughout! Mrs Thompson, Mrs Crosbie (Miss Armstrong), Mrs Gamble, Mrs McCusker (Miss Lyttle), Mr Guy, Mrs Hay (Miss Caldwell), Mrs Martin and not forgetting Alex Parkhill who was in our class for the full 7 years - I remember each and every one!  I will be forever thankful for their input into my education and the life lessons they taught me along the way!    I have many fond memories with the friendships I created within DPS such as our P1 Post Office Trip (which is sadly non-existent now), School Choir of the Year (I still remember some of the words to “A Windmill in Old Amsterdam”), Supper with Santa and my all time favourite memory was being Mary in the school Christmas play (I still remember words to my little solo).    Since leaving DPS I have completed my Music Degree with a 2:1 and PGCE in Primary Education. I currently work in Ulster University and I am tutor within Conductology (a scientifically proven gesture system to allow those with and without additional needs to access music). I am also part of a Worship Band named Wired Worship where we love to travel to different areas to share music.   Although these have been big life events, my biggest life achievement to date is my beautiful family including my husband Luke, 1 year old son Carson and not forgetting the first baby of the family - our puppy Sandy.   Overall, my time at DPS played an important part in my life’s journey and I am forever grateful for all the memories and opportunities created here. DPS will forever have a place in my heart!
