On Monday (18th Jan) of this week, children in P6/7 had the wonderful opportunity to visit the University of Ulster, Magee Campus to attend the launch of the WASPs project.
The Widening Access in Primary Schools (WASP) is the brainchild of the School of Computing and Intelligent Systems at Magee.
Other participants as well as our school are Holy Child Primary School, Creggan, Fountain Primary School and St Colmcille's Primary school. Each school will work on a three month long project to develop an advertising campaign on a topical area. The teams will attend a workshop for a half-day per month and get instruction on how to develop an advertising campaign from the ideas' stage through to planning and implementation using techniques such as storyboarding, software application scripting, movie making and animation. Each team will present their idea and campaign to an external panel, followed by a major prize ceremony.
This is a fantastic opportunity for children from our school to fully enhance their ICT skills as well as enjoy a unique experience.
